LEAF

The programme aims to provide Management Trainees with a broad holistic view of the Operations function as a whole, with first hand experience of how each department operates within the function. Understanding how the tobacco leaf gets sourced, how it gets to the factory itself and then how it gets manufactured are all essential elements of the success of British American Tobacco. This is a hugely complex part of the role and they will gain an overall understanding of all areas of Supply Chain Management.

The programme focuses on the different aspects of Leaf Operations. The Management Trainees will work hand-in-hand with farmers to ensure that they understand how best to grow the tobacco plant. British American Tobacco is motivated by ensuring sustainable farming and as a result provides farmers with the knowledge and practical instruction of sustainable farming techniques. They will also gain a full understanding of the tobacco leaf and how it is blended to create the different brands and tastes. This understanding is essential in ensuring that British American Tobacco meets their customers’ requirements across the globe.

Once the Management Trainees have been exposed to both the farming and development elements of production, they will also be involved in purchasing, supply chain and logistics. Understanding how to source additional tobacco products, getting it to the right factory at the right time for manufacture as well as transporting the finished product are all essential for the success of British American Tobacco.
